A Warm, Sing Out Loud Welcome

Sing Out Loud Colchester are delighted to welcome three new singers, who joined us, yesterday, on the first day of the new term.  They had a wonderful evening, and signed up, there and then, and are looking forward to learning lots of new songs, with us in the coming weeks.  The group is growing well, with some very focused singers, who have picked up, maybe 2/3 of the Sing Out Loud repertoire, since late October, 2014.  This has enabled them to join in our occasional outside performances, such as Leigh Folk Festival (21st June 2015), and their Winter warm-up/fund-raiser, the Winter Folk and Ale Fest, on 21st March 2015.

On Wednesday 22nd April, we have been invited to perform in the St Botolph’s Wednesday Lunch Time Concert Series.  Our first performance in Colchester.  We will be taking about 30 Sing Out Loud-ers from both Colchester and Chelmsford, and everyone is looking forward to having a great time.  If you enjoy singing, and would like to join in a few songs with us, during the lunch hour, then do come along, at 1.00pm (doors open at midday, for hot drinks).  Entrance by donation.

We look forward to seeing you, there.

Sing Out Loud at the Spring Thyme Folk and Ale Festival

What a fabulous time we had singing to a wonderful welcoming crowd at the Spring Thyme Folk and Ale Festival at The Southend Pier, Royal Pavilion on Saturday.  A great turn out and everybody sang beautifully.  Thanks for the invite Tony Prior et al.  We look forward very much to seeing you all at Leigh Folk Festival in June.

As for us…well this week sees the final of The Spring Sessions and what a fantastic 10 weeks it has been, with the formation of the Colchester extension of the Sing Out Loud family and the great times (and challenges) we’ve shared, singing our way into Spring! :-)

Karen & I now look forward to welcoming you all back for adventurous and warmer times ahead, with The Sing Out Loud Summer Sessions 2015, as we tackle a new batch of songs and occasionally take out our concert repertoire to perform in public. Book your place now, and by all means introduce a friend or someone you feel would benefit from having Sing Out Loud as part of their life.

We Came, We Contributed, We Are Sing Out Loud

Wow!! What can I say!?! We were overwhelmed by everyone’s generosity in the donations received for the Chelmsford FoodBank, at our Sing Out Loud For

"Sing Out Loud For Someone's Supper" Food Contributions

Some of the Food Contributed to Chelmsford Foodbank at “Sing Out Loud For Someone’s Supper”

Someone’s Supper event, in Chelmsford, last night.

The fact that almost all of our singers made it – and many of our guests – despite the enormous traffic holdups, through and around Chelmsford, following an accident on the London-bound A12, was amazing. It took David and me, two hours to do a 35 minute journey! So, instead of arriving an hour ahead of everyone else, we were a bit late, too!!

Luckily, though, due to our pre-planning, everyone has a role at Sing Out Loud Open House events (just as well, on this occasion!!). So, there was no need for panic! Everyone knew what to do, so things were running smoothly, and everything was ready, and waiting to go, when we arrived!! J All we needed were our Guests and the rest of our singers!!

The journey was particularly difficult for the Colchester Sing Out Loud contingent! So, Gold Stars for effort, to all of you, for getting there, AND for joining in, on ALL the songs – even those you’ve not sung before!

From the comments we’ve received, from audience and singers, alike, it was worth everyone’s efforts to attend. Those arriving later were welcomed into the room by David, and we were all delighted that you made it!

The first half of the evening was dedicated to songs from our general repertoire, followed by a break for hot drinks and refreshments. There looked to be a similar weight in cake, to the amount of food donated to the FoodBank (so, Christmas must have officially started, now)!! :-)

Then, Mark Parrott, Pastor of Grove Road Evangelical Church (where Sing Out Loud have been meeting for the last 4 or 5 years), gave a few words of welcome, to Ruth Leverett, Project Manager of the Chelmsford FoodBank.

Ruth gave us an insight to how much hope is given to those who, for whatever immediate difficulties, have to use the FoodBank. They find hope in themselves, and from the kindness of others. It was interesting to learn that those people who meet and greet users of the FoodBank and offer a listening ear, are an intrinsic part of the excellent work done, by this organisation.

Your donations were most welcome, and will be a very great help, in the coming weeks. So, thank you, to everyone, for attending the evening, and for your contributions to this vital charity.

So, here’s wishing you Season’s Greetings. We look forward to seeing you, either at the next Colchester Monday class, OR the celebratory SingSong on Monday 15th December (7.15 for a 7.30 start, to 9.30 pm), OR, in the New Year.

Best wishes

Sing Out Loud For Someone’s Supper

Sing Out Loud – Christmas Concert for Food – Thursday 4th December 2014

Sing Out Loud (the popular Chelmsford singing group for men and women of all ages and abilities), has been meeting at Grove Road Evangelical Church (GREC), for around four of the six years, since it started in November 2008.

Several members of Sing Out Loud, volunteer with the Chelmsford Foodbank, which is also a favourite charity of GREC, itself. So, it seems an excellent, way of giving something back, for Sing Out Loud to offer a different kind of Open House, this year, and invite Grove Road Evangelical Church to participate, alongside them.

This will take the form of a Concert, on Thursday 4th December 2014 (7.00 pm, for a prompt 7.30 pm start – 9.30 pm), in aid of the Chelmsford Foodbank. The Concert will include both seasonal and other songs, from the wider repertoire of Sing Out Loud. As usual at a Sing Out Loud event, there will be chance for everyone to join in with some of the songs.

The way it works, is that each member of the audience will be asked to bring along a donation, for the Foodbank, of, maybe, two or three items, from the following list:

  • Non-perishable goods (though please NO baked beans or pasta which are usually OVER-subscribed)
  • Toiletries (for adults, children, and babies)
  • Some small Seasonal items, such as individual Christmas puddings, a packet of shortbread, or chocolate biscuits, etc. These will be placed into the gift boxes prepared at this time of year

Sing Out Loud, in conjunction with Pastor, Mark Parrott, will open its doors to the congregation of Grove Road Evangelical Church, other Chelmsford Churches, plus members of the general public who are interested in either hearing Sing Out Loud (and joining in some of the singing, with them), OR, in supporting the work of the Foodbank, by coming along for an entertaining evening, whilst at the same time, helping the lives of those who are severely struggling to make ends meet.

Raring To Sing!

Friendly despot here,

Hoping this finds you all well and raring to go for another exciting week in The Autumn Sessions.  We’re kicking off on Monday at Colchester with the new members there (and remember Chelmsford you are most welcome to come and join in there – just let Karen know), then, Thursday evening at Chelmsford.

You should all, now, have received by email the handful of Christmas songs we intend to include in the programme for the SingOutLOud for Someone’s Supper evening on Dec 4th…  Last week’s sessions were marvellous and there was a wonderful buzz on Thursday night – you all sounded great!

Soon the Christmas break will be upon us and before you know it we will be embarking on The Spring Sessions. I feel it’s going to be a fabulous 2015.  (A number of you have kindly saved Karen the need for dealing with 2015 enrolments on Dec 4th, and perhaps the rest can see her this week before we start or during teabreak to further ease the pressure, and secure your place for the Spring Sessions).

It is wonderful to hear how good the group is now sounding and to experience the joy and confidence, the spirit of friendship, well-being and community in the group.

Looking forward to our sessions
