Sing Out Loud & Thurrock Lifestyle Solutions “Partnership Project”
Weekly “Sing for Health” Group
What we’ll do: Sing Out Loud groups are friendly, helpful, welcoming and fun. They give you chance to sing in a group, with other people, and to make new friends. At the Thurrock Lifestyle Solutions group, a Sing Out Loud tutor will lead you in singing some well-known songs, pop songs, action songs and you’ll learn new songs, too.
When: Ten weeks, FROM Wednesday 17th April TO Wednesday 19th June 2019 (inclusive)
Time: Arrive from 12.45 pm for a 1.00 pm start – until 3.00 pm
Where: The Community House, Seabrook Rise, New Road, Grays, RM17 6DR
Why: Singing is good for your health and it helps you feel good inside. You’ll meet new people and make friends. Occasionally, we’ll all go out together, to perform some of the songs we’ve been learning. We’ll show our friends and family, how well we sing. We may also join up with other Sing Out Loud groups, from other parts of Essex, to perform our songs with them, or for them, too.
How Much: For further details, please contact Thurrock Lifestyle Solutions, OR, use our Contact Us page, and we will forward your enquiry.
First Performance: We also have our first event to aim for! On the afternoon of Friday 21st June 2019, this group will perform a couple of our favourite songs to our family, friends and staff, gathered for the occasion of the Thurrock Lifestyle Solutions Annual General Meeting (AGM).
More About Sing Out Loud CIC
Karen Hughes set up Sing Out Loud as a community singing group in Chelmsford, in November 2008 , opening another group in Colchester, during November 2014. Says Karen:
“We are a group for unsure and beginner singers – men and women of any age (20s to 80s+), and any singing ability. At Sing Out Loud we do not audition and you don’t need to be able to read music as we learn new and familiar songs by ear”.
“Our ethos is to offer friendly, welcoming, relaxed, inclusive, encouraging, and fun sessions. We enable singers to develop in confidence and find their own voice in their own time. A side effect of Sing Out Loud, is the Community in Action you will discover. People help each other, and many singers make lasting friendships with other members.”
“Sing Out Loud Community Interest Company was formed in February 2019, to maximise on what we do best. We have always been a Social Venture at heart. Making this official, by formally becoming a Community Interest Company allows us to not only continue the good work with our current groups, but to also extend into Partnership Projects with other organisations holding similar views to our own, such as Thurrock Lifestyle Solutions.”

More About Thurrock Lifestyle Solutions CIC
As a social enterprise Thurrock Lifestyle Solutions recognises that trading for profit is not a bad thing and their assets, are locked to the community. They hold their social mission central to what they do.
Their formal articles of association list their objectives as aiming to remove barriers “using the social model of disability approach and to help disabled people to become integral and active members of the communities in which they live”. This is key to all the services they provide.
They have a long history of collaborative working and started really small in 2007 with some interested Disabled people and some forward thinking staff, meeting in an old Scout Hut in Chadwell-St-Mary. This progressed through winning a DOH pathfinder award, gaining social enterprise fund investment, winning a ‘spin out’ contract to take over all the disability provider services from the Council, to recently being listed as the number one SE100 index measured social enterprise in the Eastern region.
They now own 4 residential properties, a Camper van, lease 8 vehicles, an office and 5 locality buildings – supporting over 250 disabled people aged 16 – 78 to live the lives of their choice through over 80 support staff providing over 3000 hours per week.
In simple words, what Thurrock Lifestyle Solutions CIC do, is to give back choice and control over the activities they enjoy, to the people they serve: their community of 250 local disabled people.
